Cuith-Raing

Welcome to our geological theatre, reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings. The name Quiraing, the massive rock face that towers above Staffin, comes from the Norse kvi and rand and means round fold - in Gaelic Cuith-raing. Within the fold is The Table, an elevated plateau hidden amongst the pillars. Its said that the fold was used to conceal cattle from Viking raiders. Other landmarks to look out for are The Needle, The Prison and Cnoc a Mhirlich, the Hill of the Robber.

Thigibh agus coinnichibh ri muinntir An Taobh Sear daoine le Gidhlig, coltach ribh fhin. Ch sibh annasan mar seann lrach shligean a bha air a chruthachadh bho chionn 8,500 bliadhna. Agus, ann an taigh-tasgaidh Dhghaill, ch sibh clach le cumaidhean nan tonn oirre fhthast bho chionn 175 millean bliadhna.
